South African Social Security Agency has announced the payment schedule of grants in August 2025 and updated the grant amounts. These grants go toward crucial financial aid for more than 18 million South Africans. Such grants include Those for Older Persons, for the Disabled, for Child Support, and for Social Relief of Distress (SRD). These payments enable vulnerable citizens to adjust to a rise in their cost of living caused by inflation. This article lists the complete urban payment dates for grants, new amounts, and modus operandi to ensure smooth payment processing.

SASSA Updated Grants Amounts August 2025

SASSA adjusts grant amounts to meet challenges that arise from the economic environment, with trending inflation at 5.2% and food inflation at 6.1% in the year 2024. The listed grant amounts for August 2025 are:

  • Grants for Older Persons: R2,310 for ages 60–74; for ages 75+ R2,330.
  • Disability Grant: R2,315, increasing by R125 from R2,190.
  • Child Support Grant: R560 per child, with a top-up of R270 in respect of orphaned children (R830 in total).
  • Foster Child Grant: R1,250, a slight increase in aid to foster caregivers.
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,315, consistent with disability aid.
  • Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: R370, same as at the April 2025 adjustment.

The above increases are intended to relieve the financial burden of pensioners, caregivers, and unemployed persons; rising costs make affordability ever more challenging.

The SASSA Pays Schedule for August 2025

To reduce congestion at pay points and to ensure good service delivery, SASSA staggered the payments days between August 2025:

  • Older Persons Grant: 5 August 2025
  • Disability Grant: 6 August 2025
  • Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency): 7 August 2025
  • SRD Grant: 25-29 August 2025 (exact dates vary from one region to another; check srd.sassa.gov.za to receive an SMS notification)

The funds will remain in the accounts until one makes a withdrawal. Beneficiaries are thus requested not to make a rush on the first day to avoid queues and possible risks to security.

How To Use Your Grant

Methods of Making Payment

There are multiple mechanisms available, which are as follows:

  • Direct Bank Transfer: Make sure the banking details are kept updated to avoid any delays.
  • SASSA Gold Card: Withdraw at ATMs or retailers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, or Boxer.
  • CashSend Services: For the person with no bank accounts.

Beneficiaries must verify their details by 31 July 2025 on the SASSA website, or by means of WhatsApp (082 046 8553) or the toll-free help number (0800 60 10 11). Some 210,000 grants were suspended in June 2025 allegedly as a result of outdated information, thus providing added weight to the penalty.

Some Tips to Avoid Delays in Payments

Doing the following ensures that payments are made on time:

  • Updates on Details: Check that banking and contact details are not suspended.
  • Check Status: Get updates using Moya App, GovChat, or srd.sassa.gov.za.
  • Avoid Scams: Never give out your SASSA PIN and other personal details.
  • Plan Withdrawals: Collect funds 2–3 days after the payment has been made so as to avoid crowding
